Everybody noticed the energetic performance of Jyothirmayi who danced along with Dileep in the song. That was the turning point in Jyothirmayi's career. In her very next film Jyothirmayi was cast as the leading lady. The film Bhavum fetched her the jury's special mention at the National Awards. Then came a flurry of films: Ente Veedu Appoontem, Annyar, Pattalam, Kalyaanaraman, Hariharan Pillai Happiyaanu, Kathavasheshan etc.She chooses the roles based on the merit of the characters, judging them from an actor's perspective. She judges the character's merit on the basis of the script. And she never care whether it is the heroine or not. She is more interested in the potential or scope of the character.
